Porta-puter

Friday @ 2:30 PM, my brand new Nokia 770 and 2 gig MMC memory chip arrived in the mail, by friday night I managed to get Doom running on the machine, but other things were not working right. Since this is a Linux powered appliance, it installs software a bit differently than Windows users (like myself) are used to. In the case of the 770 you connect to repositories, select the package you want to install and it finds the other parts of the package, if available. apparently one of the entries in my repository list was corrupt and nothing was being updated. after removing all and starting over things moved much smoother.

So here are the apps that I felt I needed:
X Terminal (for getting to the root and doing command line stuff, it was needed so I could use Busybox (below),
Busybox (so I can have telnet access to my BBS when away from the box, it isnt pretty, but for the game I would need it for, it doesnt have to be),
GPE PIM Application Suite,
Games: Doom, Nethack and Maemosweeper
and PLCreator. this last one is important if you intend to use the 770 as an MP3 player. The 770 will play one song at a time, or use a playlist, and apparently it does not like the playlist created in winamp.

Im really enjoying this contraption so far, and can see it holding my interest longer than any other gizmo ive had in the past.

Back from GenCon 2007!

Had a great time, played a bit of Adventure!, Call of Cthulhu (d20) and Hollow Earth Expedition on the RPG side, and played in Demos of The Spoils CCG and Infernal Contraption by Privateer Press.

Highlights: Winning the auction for Hollow Earth Expedition RPG, the GM Screen, dice, style chips and a dinosaur tooth

Lowlights: the Con was spread all over downtown Indianapolis, with incorrect locations printed on tickets, and it seemed like most places were skimping on the AC.

Purchases: Hirst cobblestone molds, A case of Mage Knight painters edition figures (240) & a case of Mage Knight Pyramid Starters (192 figures), neither of which will be used for Mage Knight... and a few other items.
