Happy 70th anniversary!

On the evening of October 30th, 1938, Orson Welles and his cast from the Mercury Theatre on the Air, dramatized H.G. Wells "War of the Worlds" on the Columbia Broadcasting Network.

The following mornign the New York Times Headline above the fold read "Radio Listeners in Panic, Taking War Drama as Fact".

It was estimated that 6 million people listened to the broadcast, of those 1.7 million believed it to be true.

Another one bites the dust

in the last year the BBS world has lost (to my knowledge) Hellas, X-Bit, Darkness and now Hard Drive Cafe. Its sad to see so many of the boards that were around when I started BBSing so many years ago falling by the wayside.
Unfortunatly with the passing of the HDC, BRE league 777 appears to be dead as well. I am looking into replacements for both of the interBBS leagues
